据盈蝶咨询发布的报告显示，2005年至2012年，中国经济型酒店快速增长，仅2012年与2011年底相比，增长幅度就达35.68%。但进入2016年开始，经济型客房增速明显下降，截至2017年末，国内经济型酒店营业数为32444家，客房数为2009738间，客房数同比增长仅为9.95%。
业内人士认为，经济型酒店经历过高速发展期，存量大，一二线城市连锁化率高，但投资回报率偏低，需要寻找新的发展路径，从发展模式上进行变革创新。
